| Tom Thayer
(Born: August 16, 1961) is a native of Joliet, Illinois and played his collegiate football at Notre Dame. During his time at Notre Dame, he was a member of the Fighting Irish team that finished 7-0 and No. 1 in the Coaches’ Poll and AP Poll. As a guard he was top notch, earning honorable mention All-American honors during his senior year and earning his bachelor’s degree in media communications in 1983. After his days in South Bend, he made his way to the USFL with the Chicago Blitz before finally achieving his dream of playing in the NFL.
In 1985 he joined the Chicago Bears and played seven seasons in the Windy City before finally ending his career with the Miami Dolphins. During his first season with the Bears, he helped the team to a win in Super Bowl XX. After his career came to an end, he put his media communications degree to good use as a radio broadcaster and television personality.
August 30, 2014, Thayer was honored for his accomplishments at Joliet Catholic by being inducted into the Joliet Catholic Academy Hall of Champions and is also a member of the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame. Tom is an avid surfer and staunch promoter of Health, Fitness, Sports and Teamwork.
