Richard Derward - 2024 NFHOF Inductee
(Born: Feb. 15, 1935) was a very skinny, becoming a Professional Wrestler. After 6 years of training, he was in front of 8,500 wrestling fans having successfully achieved his “impossible goal.” The boy who could not make the teams in school was now a professional athlete. Richard wrestled more than 150 matches as a performer in The National Wrestling Alliance (NWA). Bodybuilding transformed his body & life. Richard currently works with senior citizens with a mission of enhancing their lives by sharing the health, wellness and exercise information and techniques that he has acquired over the past 70 years. Richard designed, developed and implemented the largest, longest running, most successful county sponsored senior fitness program in New York State. Recognized by the US Government Office of the Aging as a national best practice. He was Inducted into Ilio DiPaolo Wrestling & Buffalo Weightlifting-Bodybuilding Halls of Fame.
Joanie Greggains - 2024 NFHOF Inductee
(Born: Feb. 24, 1944 – Died: May 28, 2022) was a former physical education teacher who went on to host a very popular fitness and exercise television show in San Francisco that was eventually syndicated nationally. Joanie began appearing on KPIX’s “People Are Talking” in the late 1970s, doing exercise segments showing the studio audience and viewers at home how to embrace a healthier lifestyle through fitness and exercise. Joanie’s appearances on the popular KPIX morning talk show were so popular that she was given her own exercise show, “Morning Stretch,” in 1982. It remained on the air for many years and was in national syndication until 1995. The program moved to cable, where it lasted until 2000. She also produced, choreographed and starred in numerous exercise record albums and videos, selling more than 10 million copies. Joanie was a special advisor to the California Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports and became an advocate for the importance of exercise for older adults. She developed specialized fitness programs tailored to the needs of seniors, helping them stay active, healthy, and independent.
Dan Isaacson - 2024 NFHOF Inductee
(Born: October 24, 1949) is an Innovator of the personal training movement with Hollywood studios. He developed and managed the Sony Pictures Athletic Club and the mobile fitness trailers used by celebrities when shooting films on location. Co-Author of The Equation and contributor for John Travolta’s Staying Fit. Dan Isaacson’s Nutritional Program and Dan Isaacson’s Body Makeover for Total Gym, the longest fitness infomercial in America and co-starred in Workout with Weights video with Jane Fonda. Dan was the first Fitness Editor for ABC’s Good Morning America, creating today’s television format for the fitness professional, providing health and fitness information to the public. He was also the Executive Director of the California Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. Dan has appeared on many television shows and in numerous magazines including The Doctors, The View, CBS This Morning, Oprah, Good Morning America, CNN, Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, Time, People and Sports Illustrated.
Vince Gironda - 2024 NFHOF Inductee
(Born: Nov. 9, 1917- Oct. 18, 1997) was an American professional bodybuilder, personal trainer, author, co-founder of the supplement company NSP Nutrition, and owner of the celebrity-frequented Vince's Gym. His nickname was the "Iron Guru." By the early 1950s, he was a very well-known trainer of and movie and television actors. A short list of stars who trained at Vince's Gym includes, Cher, Clint Eastwood, Carl Weathers, Clint Walker, Sean Penn, James Garner and many others. During the 1960s, Vince's reputation grew as a personal trainer due to his pupils winning all the important contests; most notably Larry Scott, Lou Ferrigno, Frank Zane, Don Howorth and Arnold Schwarzenegger. In the 1970s Vince wrote countless articles for Iron Man magazine, managed his mail-order business, started a nutrition supplement company (NSP Nutrition) and authored his own training and nutrition manuals, all the time still operating his gym. In the 1980s, a book was published with the collaboration of MuscleMag International publisher Robert Kennedy titled "Unleashing the Wild Physique." It contained considerable knowledge Vince gathered and tested throughout his 30+ year career. The release of the book prompted a promotion tour where the Iron Guru gave sold-out seminars throughout the US and Canada.
